SPECIAL THANKS
The QOR WWII Living History Company would like to extend a very special thanks to those veterans and QOR members who have assisted us as our group and reputation have grown in the hobby. A most heartfelt and grateful thanks to Roy Whitsed who co-wrote the two classics on the Regiment in WWII - it was through him that we met our good friend, QOR D-Day veteran, Doug Hester. Doug has been not only a great friend, but invaluable to us as a source of information so that we are doing all we can to "get it right" in terms of our uniform, equipment and knowledge of the QOR's history during the Second World War. In addition, we cannot say enough about the help of Tom Canvin, another QOR veteran, who is responsible for providing us with great first-person accounts and several of the photos on this page - all of which have never been published before. Thanks, Tom. We not only admire you, but we are your friends forever. And to the QOR Association - especially past President Brian Budden, who has not only encouraged and inspired us in the hobby, but provided me with one of the greatest thrills I've ever had in the hobby - marching with the veterans at Warrior's Day in Toronto, August 1999. We don't want to leave out Jim Wilkins, who also provided us with a fantastic first-person, D-Day account, but some great photos as well. Thanks to you too, Wendy, for various items we've needed.
For further information, we highly recommend "Canadians: A Battalion at War. Canadians in the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, 1940 to 1945," Roy J. Whitsed, Burlington Books and "Battle Diary: From D-Day and
Normandy to the Zuider Zee and VE", Charles Cromwell Martin with Roy Whitsed, Dundurn Press. We also recommend "My Army Days", by John Marin (see our Links Page for information). We owe a great debt to Roy, John Marin and Doug Hester for their help with the history of the unit, as well as their friendship. Copies of "Canadians" can be had for $20 (US) and by writing Roy at:

The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada has a long and distinguished history stretching for more than 130 years. There are several good histories already on the Internet. We direct you to one of them which is located here.
